{giveaway} Win an Athletic Bag that Helps Girls Play Sports

The entrepreneurs behind Activyst are on a mission to help more girls play sports. They make super functional and bold athletic bags and donate a portion of their profits to support girls’ sports programs around the world.

Why girls sports? Studies show that girls who play sports are less likely to get sick, get pregnant in adolescence, or stay in abusive relationships. They are happier and more educated, successful, and confident. And when girls thrive, so do their communities. Yet, in many parts of the world girls don’t have opportunities to be active and play sports. Activyst wants to change this.  For each bag sold Activyst donates 10% of their profits to non-profit partners that provide sports opportunities for girls around the world.

The Prize:
Activyst is giving away their signature Active Bag to two lucky winners. This is the ultimate workout bag with special compartments for your yoga mat, shoes, clothes and personal items. It comes in two color options – coral or turquoise – and is made of “macen”, a colorful fabric the company’s founder discovered in Nicaragua. Bags from this giveaway will help fund a girls’ soccer coach for Soccer Without Borders US program in Oakland.

Congrats to the winners! Debra Lee and Anna Gregor! Comments are now closed.

How to Enter:

For a chance to win an active bag, “Like” Activyst on Facebook and then leave a comment on this post sharing your favorite memory of being active from childhood.

BONUS ENTRY:

For a 2nd chance to win, tweet or share the following on Facebook and leave a second comment here letting me know you did:

Enter to win an Athletic Bag that Helps Girls Play Sports via @skinnytaste  http://www.skinny-bits.com/2013/06/giveaway-win-athletic-bag-that-helps.html

For a 3rd chance to win, follow me all me on Instagram and leave a 3rd comment here letting me know you are (and maybe say hello!!).

Chosen winners must respond within 48 hours of notification to claim their prize or another shall be chosen. Activyst will deliver the bag to the winners by November 2013.  Good luck!

What an awesome idea!? I love this. Dancing and doing gymnastics as a little girl was always something I loved doing. Now watching my niece grow up playing soccer and lacrosse makes me want to support this cause even more!

One of my most favorite memories from being active in childhood was going clam digging with my family. You work up a sweat that is for sure..and as a kid you are running around stepping on all the holes that spit out water where the clams are!

My favorite memory as a child being physically active are numerous but one that sticks with me is in elementary school playing kickball with the big round red ball! Oh how I miss those days! Being a teacher, the kids don't play this game as I did as a child and I always have to make time to take them out and expose them to this game.

When I was younger, I would always have a "headache" when there was a physical activity. I would have rather have read a book. In high school, I had scoliosis surgery and waited until my senior to take the required PE credit. I was recovering from surgery, but had to run a mile. It took me 16 minutes. I practiced 3 times a week and got it down to 6 minutes. I won the Physical Ed award that year and have been inspired ever since to stay physically fit :-)

I loved riding my bike as a kid. My best friend and I would ride all over our small town. We'd go the local pool, Sonic, little drug store with old fashioned fountain,... But one of my favorite rides was to go visit my grandparents. They always treated my friend like another grandchild. Such great memories!

Though I do remember playing organized sports through the town I grew up in, my favorite memories were of all the kids getting together for impromptu games of kickball, hide and seek, kick the can, etc. It was especially fun when all the families (parents and kids) would come outside after dinner and we would all play until it was dark. Perhaps I need to start that again in the neighborhood I live in with my kids.

Sports has always been a part of my life and I have instilled that in my girls. One daughter swims, while the other can't choose between volleyball, basketball and softball. liked actyvyst on FB. My dad taught me how to ride a bike on a high school track in Portland, OR. While I was learning how to ride, he was learning how to ride backwards by sitting on the handlebars and pedaling backwards! We had tons of great bike rides together, even camping, sometimes. Now he goes on bike rides with my 9 year old daughter!

I was always the fasted runner throughout elementary and middle school (mostly because I was freakishly tall and my legs were the height of most of my classmates). Each year all the different schools in our district competed in the "Junior Olympics" and in fourth grade I was chosen to run the last leg of the 400 meter relay. My team was in the lead all the way around the track, hand off after hand off of the baton. When the baton came to me I grabbed it and began sprinting as fast as I could, a good 30 ft in front of the competing runners. The finish line was right in front of me and the crowd was cheering and... I stopped dead right in front of it. They had run out of normal tape for the finish line and instead used caution tape. Growing up with a dad in the construction business I was trained NEVER to cross caution tape. We got second place.

I always played sports as a kid. My dad had all girls and all of us played softball and basketball.
Some of the best memories of my dad are from travel softball, when he was our coach. Times we spent at the gym pitching in the off season. I never realized how important it was that my parent was so encouraging and involved. Now that I am a parent myself, I hope I can be just as involved with my kids sports.
Playing sports really makes you feel like you belong and are part of a big family, your team

I remember as a child waking up in the morning and spending the entire day playing outside with the other kids in the neighborhood. We would ride bikes, play kickball, climb tree, play wiffle ball; pretty much 12 hours of nonstop moving. You knew that when the sun was setting it was time to go home.

My favorite memory was always playing parks and rec sports as a kid. Yeah high school was great, but looking back that was when I had the purest love for sports. It wasn't tainted by politics. I made friends with everybody and I never seemed to tire. Which is a rare occurrence anymore. =S My mom never pressured me into doing any sports and she never made me continue to do ones that I wasn't that into. Having that opportunity as a kid to play sports and even now in college with intramural league is always rewarding.

I loved doing gymnastics and competing with my high school dance team when I was young. Now that I am older I continue to enjoy yoga, weight training and running!

When I was younger, I loved so many things outdoors - riding my big wheel and then bike, playing in my sandbox, swinging on swings, playing in the ocean, running after the ice cream truck (!), and swimming in pools and lakes. Summer is still my most active season and I love being able to be outdoors so much of the day.

My favorite activity from childhood was climbing the trees and fences around our neighborhood. While running around in ripped jeans didn't please my mother she was happy to see us outside!

I grew up taking tennis lessons because my grandmother was a tennis player. She had so many trophies and I wanted to be just like her. I remember trying so hard during practices so I could be as good as my nanny.
