{giveaway} California Almond Gift Set


Today is National Almond Day and I'm happy to host a giveaway sponsored by California Almonds.

When I need a snack to hold me over until my next meal, I always turn to fruits and nuts. Almond's are an excellent choice because they are crunchy and delicious. Almond butter is excellent over toast or added to smoothies. Almond flour can be used to bake so many wonderful muffins, breads, cookies and cakes. 

Naturally cholesterol-free, almonds are the tree nut highest in fiber (3.5g) and protein (6g) and contain 13 grams of unsaturated fat and only one gram of saturated fat per one-ounce serving. When compared ounce for ounce, almonds are also the tree nut highest in calcium, vitamin E, riboflavin and niacin.

Love your site! I LOVE roasted almonds and make my own almond butter. My fav way to use Almonds: I stuff dried figs with fennel seeds and either whole or chopped almonds, then roast for 2 hrs at 200 degrees in the oven on a baking sheet! Let cool, store in a glass jar with some bay leaves. Yummy afternoon snack!

When I make a scrumptious roasted red pepper sauce (that is one of my husband's favorites), I add almonds when I puree the mixture with my immersion blender. It adds a wonderful richness to the dish. I also grind almonds and bag them for my celiac mom to use as a coating or filler for many of her dishes. The uses are endless, the flavor is outstanding, and the health benefits are well-documented!

My favorite way to use Almond Butter is in a breakfast wrap. Use a low carb tortilla, almond butter, raw honey, a sprinkle of cinnamon and a banana. Roll it all up and you have the perfect to go breakfast.

I have to admit, I'm an almond addict. Some of my favorite ways to eat almonds include;

- almond butter over plain greek yogurt and fruit (sounds odd but it's a really satisfying breakfast)

- toasted and coated with sesame seeds and maple syrup

and finally, one of my favorite ways to eat almonds (if I'm craving something sweet) is a recipe my mom and I came up with were you mix almond butter with oats, raisins, and shaved dark chocolate!

Love, love, love almonds. I eat them every day as a post-workout protein snack. Then in the afternoon I have a few more to get me from lunch to dinner. It's my favorite snack. I buy them by the pound!

I love to eat plain almonds as a snack. They are easy to eat during a busy work day. I also enjoy almonds on salad and in some delicious cookies every once and awhile. Almond butter is new to me but it is on "my list" of things to try. Can't wait! eebrose@hotmail.com
