Always Hungry on Weight Watchers Points Plus

Q - I just started Points Plus and I am ALWAYS hungry. I feel like I'm doing it wrong. My daily points are enough for 3 meals, no snacks. So do I use the weekly points for the extras like snacks, etc? I think I'm confused on how to use my weekly points. I am just so scared of going over my daily points. Can you please help me make some sense out of this?

A - If you make the right choices though out your day, you shouldn't be hungry. Choose power foods, to keep you feeling full longer, earn activity points by exercising which allows you to eat more, and use your bonus points whenever you want, they are yours to use. One of the things I like about Points Plus is the 0 point fruit, I am wondering if you are taking advantage of that? If anyone can offer more advice, please comment!

I can't seem to eat all of my points! We eat so many fruits and veggies lately it's hard to find enough point-foods to eat in one day. If I don't get to my total pts for the day, I don't make them up with junk, that wouldn't make sense.

What does a typical day of eating look like for you? I'm doing Points Plus and have 29 points/day. I start with Yogurt @ 8, Fruit @ 10, Lunch @ 11:30-12ish (leftovers from the night before), Fruit or Protein @ 3 and then dinner around 6. I've been feeling really good about my hunger levels since starting this new plan. For dinner this week I have been following a healthy weekly meal plan I found in Martha Stewart's Everyday Food magazine. So far this week we've had fish, chicken, black bean soup, and steak. Up next? Casserole. For me, I think it is just a matter of trying new, healthier recipes. Which brings me back to my first question... what are you eating that is leaving you so hungry? ;)

And PS - Don't forget to drink lots of water!

Yes, if you eat foods with higher protein/lower carbs(power foods) you're good to go! Here is an average day for me....Pre Breakfast: Protein shake(scoop protein powder w/ water)(2)....Breakfast: 1/2 cup oatmeal(4) with 3 egg whites(1) & banana(0)... Snack: apple(0) & reduced fat cheese stick(1)... Lunch:low carb pita(3) with low sodium turkey(1) & RF cheese(1), 1 cup of 0 point soup(0).... Snack: 1/2 cup greek yogurt(1) w/ blueberries(0)...This leaves me with 15 points+ for dinner and another snack(I get 29 daily points+)...Tonight's dinner was 1 can of tuna(3) w/ light mayo&relish(1), more 0 point soup(0), and I just ate the tuna with Trader Joe's pita chips(2)(Not my ideal dinner, but I needed a no cook option this evening)....I have 9 points+ left! Here I come frozen yogurt!:)...Plus, I hiked for 1&1/2 hrs this morning w/ a friend and did the TRX at my gym for 45mins today. I'm guessing that's about 13 activity points+.

Wow I have opposite problem on this plan. Have to be intentional about eating all points. My recommendations....FRUIT!!! It's free...why not take advantage? When you eat dinner bulk it up with free foods like broccoli. Other foods....hummus, pistachios, peanut butter, cheese, oatmeal, think high protein and high fiber and chuck the carbs! If you have 100 cal packs get rid of them . No longer worth it on this plan. These are things i did to lose and the only way I had success. Long before new plan even.

Plus don't underestimate the power of water.

I have been successful by eating a little something every couple of hours. Like mentioned earlier choose filling foods and use your zero points plus fruits and veggies!

I'm super picky about fruit and veggies, so eating a lot of it has been a challenge for me... but I'm loading up on as much as I can and have kept my hunger at bay pretty well. I've also cut down on carbs a bit, since those are the things that tend to have higher points on the new system.

Whenever you start a new diet program that radically changes the way you've been eating--especially if you've been enjoying holiday treats to the fullest :)--it's likely that you're going to be hungry the first couple weeks as your body adjusts to eating less fat, calories, sugar, etc. Jut another thought.

I am finding it hard to use all of my daily Points Plus points. I usually have 7-10 left over. Perhaps it is that fruit is now zero points now and I eat a lot fruit when I would like something sweet. I also find it easier to keep hunger at bay by eating several small meals through out the day. I normally eat about 6 times per day and that really helps. Planning ahead is really key to this. I usually track and plan the night before and bring what I need to work or in the care if running errands.

I find that the amount of points I have is just right. I like to eat, so I eat every couple of hours, but I get a really good balance of food on this. And being a sugar junky, I still can have a little something everyday.

you might want to take a look at what you're eating at meals. make sure you're including zero point fruits and vegetables to bulk them up and that way you're not using point's plus value foods and you will have points for snacks. i have 29 points a day which is the lowest possible and i always have points for snacks so you should be able to work it out! good luck!

I knew you would all have great advice, thanks for commenting! I find the best thing to do is to make a shopping list, plan your meals for the week and buy lots of fruit and vegetables. Nothing is worse than starting any diet and not having anything to eat. Good luck!

First of all. If you go to meetings speak with your leader. Maybe you are making the wrong choices for food. I know that I get 30 points a day, plus I get activity points and a lot of times I'll use all my daily points, but don't usually use all of my weekly allowance points. I can't say that I am hungry unless I go too long without eating. I work two jobs and sometimes I don't get to eat my afternoon snack. Also drink lots of water or plain herbal tea. Also in response to gina I found the natural vines on amazon.com or candycabinet.com., but you have to buy a large quantity. Good luck!

I am also questioning the new Points Plus Program. Since Sept. 2009, I've lost and kept off 43 pounds on the old Points system and am now lifetime. Right after the changeover, and having MORE points, I've noticed that my weight is creeping upwards. (a gain of 5 pounds). WW says it has changed its program to encourage members to make healthy choices...I ALWAYS felt that I made healthy choices (fresh fruit over a processed "health" bar), so I really feel that WW has encouraged those members with bad habits to change, yet has penalized me for always making good choices. (at the expense of gaining weight!!) How can any fruit be "zero points" with all its natural sugars?? It's impossible! I'm considering leaving the Plan and trying SparkPeople, a site that was mentioned in an earlier email. Maybe counting calories, with the
knowledge that sodium, fats and carbs are also important, will be a better fit for me at this point in my weight loss.

I get 29 points a week, and have not been hungry once, unless I go for too long of a time between meals or snacks. My problem is the fact that I DO NOT like to cook. I buy WW frozen meals at Target because most of the time, they are $2.00 or less each, so they save me money. With each meal that I eat I also have plenty of veggies and eat fruit inbetween main meals, especially when I get a craving for sweets. So far on the new plan I have lost one week, gained the next, lost the next, and gained the next and on and on...It's very disheartening especially since I have not allowed myself to be off plan ONCE, not even during the holidays, which was super hard. Now I know the WW Frozen prepared meals are high in carbs and sodium, but taking into account that I am refiguring the points each time I eat one (because I have not found any new meals with the new points system yet)and making a point to track each and everything that passes my lips, should't I still loose? I don't even use the extra 49 points a week that's allowed. I'm getting really frustrated, but refuse to give up. What's really frustrating is that I was loosing each week BEFORE the new change. Not sure what to do from here...

I just started the new WW points plus program and lost 3 lbs on week one. My greatest challenge has been not to eat resturant prepared food. I feel like I am going through withdrawal. I think I am not taking advantage of my point thoroughly because I do feel hungry all the time. WW really is all about find the proper way to eat and portion control which has been hard for someone like me who loves to eat large portions. I am really trying to motivate myself to start 10 mins on the treadmill as well. Just really hard to give up my fast food :(

Lots of mixed reviews, for those of you not losing, have you spoken to your WW leader?

I was/still am confused about the 0 fruit as well, since fruit is always a part of my life. I wouldn't over do it, I'm sure 5 bananas are not 0 so be careful!

I was not aware that WW frozen meals don't have the points plus yet, that is strange! I understand some people just don't like cooking, I wish I could convince you how much better it is for you to cook your own meals, even if it's only crock pot dinners! You could freeze the extra and have your own frozen meals.

Yes!! Motivate yourself to get active!!

Last week was my first week back on Weight Watchers, and my 1st experience with the new points plus program. For breakfast, I have 1/2 cup of egg beaters (1 pt) with diced green peppers and onion, 2tbsp regular sharp cheddar (1.5 pts) and 3 slices of oscar meyer delifresh ham, chicken or turkey (.5 pt). (Total breakfast, 3 pts) My midmorning snack is a banana. Lunch has been a 1 pt wrap with either grilled chicken (1 pt/oz = 3 pts) or 6 slices oscar meyer delifresh meat (1 pt), 1 Laughing Cow spreadable cheese wedge (1 pt), lettuce, peppers, onions and pickles. (Total 3 to 5 points) Afternoon snack is a sliced apple dipped in FiberOne yogurt. (1 pt) By suppertime, I have spent about 9 of my 29 points. I went to Gina's Skinnytaste.com and printed out tons of recipes for supper. I have a good protein and lots of steamed veggies dressed olive oil, lemon juice and fresh garlic, and sometimes will throw in a salad. (Total 12-15 pts) For dessert, I have a 3 pt chocolate muffin/cupcake. (1 box Devil's food mix, 1/2 cup applesauce and 1 cup water. Bake 24 muffins at 325-350 degrees for 18 minutes...yum!) I ate this six days last week and lost 4.4 lbs. My husband and daughter lost weight too!

Gina - I think they are just trying to get through all the old packaging of the WW frozen meals. Some of the ones in my grocery store are mixed, as they replinsh their stock the new ones have the new points. Other than that, my leader said to check our book because all of them are listed in there.

Thanks Kathryn for the choc. muffin idea and for everyone else for their inputs. I am having trouble switching over from the old plan to the new. I just don't like change and I had my old plan "planned" out very well. You guys have given me ideas on how to switch completely over.

I use Ole Mexican Foods Xtreme Wellness high fiber low carb wraps...8 g protein, 5 g carbs, 2 gm fat, and 12 g fiber. The website is www.olemexicanfoods.com They also have a tomato basil wrap that is only one point+ too. I haven't checked the other flavors. I find them on a shelf stacker in the meat department at my local grocery. Ask your store manager if he can get them for you.

Another snack/dessert we like is pumpkin spice muffins for 3 pts. Take a box of spice cake mix, add a can of pure pumpkin (or 2 cups) and 1 cup of water. Bake at 325/350 for 18-22 minutes. It makes 24 muffins that are quite a treat!

I am still trying to make my peanut butter chocolate chip quesadillas WW friendly. When I do, I will share that too!

I am allotted 30 points per day, and I find that I only usually use about 22-26. While I can definitely relate to feeling hungry sometimes, I have figured out a lot of tricks for filling meals (I have been on and off of Weight Watchers for a long time, mostly on the old points so I am adjusting to the new). I agree that the 0 point fruits is a great snack--try a baked banana or apple with a little brown sugar or lite chocolate syrup. I also think edamame make a great snack, or a light whole wheat English muffin. I also love veggies and dip, so I snack on that or hummus. For meals, I really like making big stir fry type dishes with lots of vegetables. You can use a lot of different sauces, including light teriyaki sauce or a home-made light curry (with lite coconut milk). Check out my blog too for some more ideas!

I am a lapsed lifetimer and went back to Weight Watchers when they rolled out the new program in Canada. Since starting the points plus, I have lost weight consistently (including through Christmas holidays) and am rarely hungry. My target is 29 points and I have no problem using them PLUS most of my weekly points.

From what I've heard on other Weight Watcher sites is the people who are having problems with the new program are trying to mix the old and new....counting fruit as 0 but using the old
program for everything else. You cannot mix the two.

I've also heard that some people are going a little crazy with the 0 point fruit. According to Weight Watchers, they have figured in 5 servings of fruit and we are to eat it to satisfaction. Some people are abusing that by eating 9 bananas plus other fruit in a day.

I'm not saying that anyone who's posted here about having problems is doing that, just what I've heard about others. It's just something to think about if you're having a problem.

Gina, I have to fess up. After my last post about not being able to loose, but making sure to count every single point while eating WW frozen meals, I took your advice this week. Did not...I repeat, DID NOT eat any of the frozen meals this week. Cooking was hard, as I hate to cook, so my meals were not gourmet, however they followed plan, and I lost 2.2 pounds this week. So you were right! Yes, I admitted it...you were right. Evidently it was all the sodium and the carbs that are in those meals, LOL Therefore, no more frozen meals for me unless I'm in a pinch. Thanks for listening...

I love PP - I have been losing weight consistently. I make all my own foods stay away from pre-packaged. I have been doing the PPP since 11/29 when it was rolled out and have been propelled into a new scale number I have never seen before 2lbs. from a 50 pound loss. So excited, this is the most liveable program ever.

I joing WW about a month ago and now find I am eating WAY more than before WW. I get 29pts and try to eat 8pts for breakfast, 8pts for lunch and 10pts for dinner the last 3 are for incidentals! I have to admit though...without Gina's recipes I highly doubt my wife and I would be as successful as we are...and we probably would have dropped out of WW without them! I love that the new program is all about fresh food...it makes it so livable and we are feeling GREAT!

Read this book "Primal Mind Primal Body." Weight Watchers is old school in thinking that low fat works to lose weight. We need fat and fat does not make a person fat. That is why people are always hungry on WW's. Look at how fat America has gotten since the low-fat craze started in the 70's! Processed food and combining fat with sugar has made us fat! Read the book, starting eating as it suggests and you'll never be hungry again and you'll revert to your normal healthy weight.

I'm hungry a lot on the program too. I find that if I use my Weekly Points, then I don't lose weight. If I don't use my Weekly Points, then I'm hungry. I'm only using about half my Weekly Points on average. I've only lost 2 pounds in the last 2 months. It's infuriating. I'm tracking evvvverything.

I do have a thyroid problem, but I take meds and it's under control. That's not the problem.

My main glandular problem is salivary.

Sorry to disappoint, but the Ole wraps are really two points plus. The packaging does not reveal total carbs, which you must do for WW. The total carb count cannot be 5 when 12 of them are fiber. What the company did was they subtracted out the fiber for low-carbers. Your total carb count is really 17 (5+12 for fiber) making them 2 pts.

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone here could give me some advice. My husband and I are doing the new program without going to meetings. I have about 50 pounds to lose, and when I weighed in when I bought all the program materials, I was told I get 35 points a day. In the first month I lost 10 pounds, but now the scale isn't moving. I'm never hungry, seldom use all of my weekly points, and am a vegetarian. I typically eat an apple in the car on the way to work, then eat 1/4 cup oatmeal with 1/2 tbsp. each of flaxseed and brown sugar and 1/2 tsp. of cinnamon and 3 points worth of yogurt, along with a coffee with almond milk, all for 7 points. At lunch I eat leftovers, from the night before, usually a cup of pasta (5 points) with veggies and a cheese stick (1 point). Sometimes I have beans for 3 more points. At home I eat a veggie based dinner (tonight was portabello caps filled with spinach, onions, artichoke hearts, and dried tomatoes covered with 1/4 cup lowfat cheese on a bed of 1/2 cup quinoa and arugula with balsamic vinegar, no oil). I usually have 2 clementines and string cheese as a snack, and for dessert I have 44 points worth of ice cream or a little red wine and a square of dark chocolate.
So, given all of that, can anyone give me suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong? Do I need more protein or oil? Any advice is appreciated.

Ha!! Yes it would, lol! I wonder what would happen if you ate all your points? Is it possible you're not eating enough? Perhaps you could male up the difference with healthy oils, nuts, etc. It's worth a try.

Anonymous...it sounds like you should recalculate your points plus since you've lost 10 lbs. You may have less than 35 points plus now. Also, do you exercise? That may help get the scale moving. Good Luck!

I dont understand why if fruit is a zero point food, why fruit juice would be 3 points? I'm talking juice that's JUST fruit. No sugar, no additives, just fruit. For example, I'd love to use fruit simple smoothie juice and crush it up with ice and eat that but I'm not wasting 3 points on a drink. Any ideas?

Tammie, because fruit is not technically ero points, but WW made it 0 to help you make better snacking choices. If used in a recipe, it's no longer 0.

But the only thing I'm adding in is ice. It's fruit that's been made into juice and ice. Nothing else. No water, no sugar, no added ingredients of any kind.

Tammie, use your judgement, if it's a piece of fruit pureed with ice, I guess IRS still fruit. I personally find the 0 points on fruit confusing and misleading.

when you eat a fruit (not drink juice) you are ingesting valuable fiber, and a good amount. When your body is digesting the fruit fiber it is actually BURNING CALORIES because it is not easy for your body to break down things like fiber and protein. you are making your body work by eating. (awesome right?!)this is why a whole fruit eaten raw is zero points. and also why just drinking the juice is worth points. (because your body does not work to digest the juice it just uses it right away as free calories that your body did not have to work for) I would also like to point out that there are vital nutrients in fruit. I noticed every time someone mentions fruit the following word is banana lol you should not think of bananas as being the only fruit, do not overeat bananas, instead try jicama, kiwis,blueberries,goji berries, apples, oranges, cantaloupe, mangos, pomegranates etc etc do not be afraid of the fruit, the fruit is your friend lol.

i would also like to add the breakdown of food that i learned from a weightloss doctor (it was a awhile back i hope i remember percentages 100% accurate)
during the digestion process you're body uses energy to break down foods. The three categories are protein, carbs, and fat. When you eat protein, 30% of the protein you consumed is used automatically during the digestion process. essentially 'you ate and retained 70%' what you 'actually' ate ( hope that makes sense) that is why diets like atkins works for a lot of people because you ONLY eat protein, but im not a caveman so thats not for me lol
For carbohydrates its 13%. 13% of the carbohydrates you eat is used during the digestion process.
And last and least, for fat its only 2%. 2% of the fat you eat is used during the digestion, the rest is either used for energy or stored for later use.
when eating protein high in fat it does not count as just protein. just because its meat doesnt mean the fat is unaccountable. the fat in the meat still breks down like regular fat (2%).
a little piece of info that really put things into perspective for me, maybe it will help someone else too.

sorry back again lol to the original post, its worth a shot to exchange some of the fat and carbs on your current plan for some lean protein. the reason they say you feel fuller longer is because your body takes longer and works harder to break it down. so it sits in you longer. or what i like to do when i get into 'stuff my face mode' or 'i need to feel very full mode' is eat a large baked potato with 2 tbs of sour cream. when i start eating it i cant wait to get to the end, about midway i start to realize that im going to be veryy satisfied by the end of the potato. might work for you too =]

I love this program! I never did WW before and started Points Plus 3.5 weeks ago with a goal to lose 36 lbs. I lost 7.2 the first week, 4.2 second week and 1.6 this last week and am on my way. The first week I did virtually no carbs and was very hard core. The last two weeks I did allow myself some flexibility and even used some of my "extra" points and made it more do-able as I do like a glass of wine or two every once and a while with my fiance and friends. I don't feel hungry on the program as I do take advantage of the fruit/veggies (although do more veggies to avoid over-sugaring) and drink tons of water. The one thing I really think helps me is the calculator/tracker on my iPhone - couldn't be successful w/out it! I also have a great support system, awesome mtg leader, super buddy on WW with me and it makes all the difference.

I am new to Weight Watchers. I am currently trying out the 7 day free trail. I started the free trail on Sunday and today is Tuesday. I think I am doing pretty good with the portion control, although I do wonder if I am eating the right amount per servings. Its not easy to eyeball 3/4 or 1/2, therefore I am thinking about purchasing a cheap set of measuring cups to help with the food portion. Since starting this program, I have been forced to really think about the food I put in my mouth knowing that at the end of the day I will be accountable for it. So after saying all of that...is it possible to lose 4lbs in 3 days of starting the program?

Anonymous- you should absolutely buy measuring cups, spoons and a scale. You can't do this properly without the tools, good luck and weight loss is different for everyone, depends on how much you need to lose and what your diet was like before.

I have been on WW since 9/10. Lost 13 lbs. On the new PPP I have gone up and down 5-7lbs at any given time. Frustraing to point of cancel mymembership. I workout at least on a good week 1-2 hours per day. I did really well for the first few monthis b4 the new PPP. I want to succeed but am having a hard time. My focus is all off and I only weigh in every 2-3 weeks, as I do not want to see the #s add up. Any suggestions.

The problem is that I am eating fruit instead of some other unhealthy snack food which is good but it is not getting to the real problem...I am just eating to eat something not because I am hungry. I think I have to ask myself if I am really hungry or if I am just eating because I am bored or emotional.

Good question, I find when I am busy, which is most of the time! I don't even think about being hungry. When I was at my day job, the hours dragged and I always thought about food so maybe if you can find a way to distract yourself and keep busy, you can get food off the mind.

I only have 29 points plus a day (the lowest you can have on the program) and find that I have plenty for snacking. If you are only finding you have enough for meals, maybe you should reconsider your meal choices? For example, a number of lean cuisine meals are around 6 points plus a serving, which should free up a few points for something to munch on in between when you don't feel like fruit!

The points ARE different for each person. I will gain if I eat 29 points. 21-25 is about right for me, I think. And remember: Just because fruit is "free" is no license to pig out. If you're hungry, have veggies. Limit yourself to one or two fruits per day. They are high in sugar (well, blueberries are OK). Fat counts, too. Peanut butter is filling, but high in fat. Best to look for other options.

@ Ruth. 29 points is the lowest amount alotted on PPlus. 21-25 is what you are allowing yourself. Are you following plus or the prior version? I'm at 29 and in my 2nd week. I have sparsely dipped into my "anytime" points because I find I'm fairly satisfied all the time. The week is easier, because it is more regimented for me at work. Weekends could be a disaster...but I'm trying. Anyhow, did you arbitrarily choose 21-25 points or did you discuss with someone at WW or are you following the prior points program and not points plus? Oh, I lost 1.6 lbs first week--am hypothyroid, diabetic and have fatty liver. I'm thrilled with the loss and hope for more.

Ijust joined WW last Thursday, however I am also dealing with some very personal issues and I have not been eating. I can barely manage 10-20 points a day. Is this going to be a problem? I am starting to eat a little more. I am eating a little more and I have been making all of my owne food and making healthy choices. Is it not good that I am not eating even close to my point total of 29. I also stop when I am full.

Oh I'm sorry, I tend to be the same way when I am depressed. For your over-all health eating 10-20 points a day is not good. You should be eating more than that, even if you just choose food that has more calories like nuts and olive oil.

Wondering if kabuchi sp? Squash is zero points ? I looked it up on Ww online and it says all squashes but that one. It's used in Philippine dishes. It seems to be starchy. I love it and would cook and eat it everyday once I know for sure that's its ok.

I get 21 points too! But I'm doing it unofficially, I just plugged my numbers into an online PP calculator. I'm wondering whether other people who have under 29 did this too. But I'm not having trouble eating only 21 most of the time...
Breakfast = cereal, Lunch = fruit/vegetable and a yogurt... so I have around 10 points for dinner. If I need a snack, I eat fruit. It helps that I am in college and am on campus for most of the day; I just tell myself I can't buy anything there and then there's no snacking because I can only eat what I brought :P

Make sure you are following the appropriate program: 21 points would be appropriate for the old points program; the minimum on PointsPlus is 29. Don't confuse the two because they are VERY different.
Someone on some other site (can't remember where, sorry) worked out that on the PointsPlus program, it averages out to 40 calories per point (including "free" items). Therefore, if you're only eating 25 points, you're only eating about 1000 calories and that is NOT enough. Your body will go into a sort of starvation mode and you will NOT lose weight.
Now, with the PP system, in order to lose weight and eat enough points, you DO have to eat differently than on the old program (I've done both and had success with both...one pre-baby, one post-baby). On the old program, a lot of people filled their diet with things like 100 calorie packs and avoided fruits b/c they "cost" points. I did that too, and we lost weight, but we were filling ourselves with non-nutritious, empty calories, which wasn't teaching us the RIGHT way to eat. With the new system, the best way to fulfill points and eat enough is to eat whole foods, like veggies, lean meats, dairy products, and avoid processed carbs. Meaning, I now drink 2% milk instead of skim, eat very little pasta or bread, but lots of oatmeal and cottage cheese...you have to mess with it based on your preferences, but you get the point. Eating some fat and protein and fiber is harder for your body to break down, so you stay fuller longer.
My typical lunch is 1/2 cup cottage cheese with 1 cup fruit on it...2.5 PP. And I'm NOT hungry afterward. But if I am (typically about 1 week a month, ya know?), I have enough points left over to have something extra with it. Breakfast is usually oatmeal or eggs or a combo of the two. Boxed cereals are one of the worst things to have b/c your body burns through it so quickly and it's alot of points based on that. Dinner tonight was a steak with onions and mushrooms, spinach and an artichoke. Only 8 PointsPlus! In theory, I could eat 3 meals like that on my 29 points and still have room for dessert!
Anyway, I know this was an old post, but I wanted to chime in since people seem to be talking about both programs and I've been able to make both programs work for me. Good luck!

I started pp a month ago. I have lost 15 pounds and count every point i put in my mouth. I dont go overboard on the fruit but I do eat the WW frozens at lunch. I make sure to recalculate them to the PP. Will eating the frozens hinder weight loss as I go further along. I thought it didnt matter what we ate as long as we didnt go over the 29 points

One thing I had to learn when joining WW was I needed to throw away everything I had ever done "dieting". This is not another diet, it is a lifestyle change. I also have 29 pts. I try to always add a fruit or veggie to every meal. I find if I am having trouble staying under points and being hungry, it is because I'm eating high point items throughout the day and not eating any of the lower point, filling items, that are power foods. When I eat more power foods, I stay way under points per day and stay so full.

I just started the WW PP program and I am having difficulty with understanding why the same item cooked different ways (0 point value ingredients, if any ingredients are added)change the point value. For example: raw apple vs. baked apple in oven with only cinnamon = 2 different point values. There are many other situations that I have come across like this and I find it very frustrating. I just dont see why if something is cooked with the same ingredients but in different ways why can't it be the same point value?

Fruits actually have points which is why when you use it in a recipe, it isn't 0. My understanding is they wanted people to choose a healthy snack instead of processed snacks, so having a few pieces of fruit thoughout the day is a healthy option, so they made it 0.

Do not eat tons of fruit, because fruit contains sugar and you will gain weight. Re-read your getting started book so you know exactly what filling foods to eat and to make sure yu aren't hungry through out the day.

And last but not least, MOVE. Exercise is the key to a healthy life style, along with healthy eating. I rejoined on February 26, 2011 and I'm done 64 lbs and for me, lots of exercise has really allowed me to lose every week.

Just stay positive and remember, you are worth it!

I am not a member of Weight Watchers program. I only have the Weight Watchers PointsPlus Pocket guide (little book). My sister gave that to me. It doesn't say about 49 points. How does that work? I get 29 points. I go to the gym 5 days a week for about 30 mins. I add 2 points for doing workout a day, so that means I get 31 points. Am I doing right?

No - the 49 extra points you get per week are like bonus points -- this means that if you want to splash out at dinner one night in the week, or feel hungry on 29 points a day, you can use those 49 points a week at your discretion: either use it all at once on that night you feel like a box of chocolates or lots of beer, or divide it by 7 so you get 7 extra points to eat a day. Personally, I try to stick to my 29 and not use the bonus points unless I know I'm going to have dinner or drink plans that will mean rich calorific intake.

I highly recommend you join the WW online program if you're trying this alone - it's a fantastic resource, and there's a lot to learn on there about healthy eating. There's also a very supportive community of 'losers' on there. :-). I can't go to meetings because WW isn't in my country (India). But I used to attend meetings in Canada when I lived there. Online is better than no WW meetings at all. If it's a budget thing and you can't afford it, then stick to the rule of 29 (+45). And then, whatever Activity points you earn on top are yours to feel good about! Or you can swap them into PP points.

2. Baby carrots (boring!)
3. Celery sticks
4. Bell peppers: try the orange, yellow, and red ones - the first two are sweet, the last has a sharp but tasty kick!
5. Fruits: you can have 5 servings of fruits AND vegetables a day -- this means no more than 5 servings of fruits, but my sense is that you can have as many servings of veggies as you like. Fruits are high in complex sugars, so the limit is five. Try medium-sized bananas (not more than 2 a day, though) because they're rich in potassium and they're known as the 'poor man's food' - very nutrient-rich slow food that fills you and gives you energy. Also a cup of fresh mango. Then you can snack on apples, grapes, pears, etc.
6. Try nuts as a snack - 6 almonds OR 20 pistachios OR 2 walnuts - these aren't free foods on PP like the ones mentioned above, but they are healthy foods even if they cost you points.

I joined online a little over a week ago. It gave me 26 points/day plus the 49/week. I'm reading everywhere the 29 is the minimum you should get on points plus. I've been a little hungry, but it hasn't been too bad with lots of fruit, veggies, and water and I lost 4 lbs last week. Am I not eating enough points? Will my points go down even lower when I lose weight? I started out at 5'4" and 148lbs. confused...

They recently (on like December 1st I think) changed the minimum from 29 to 26. After testing PointsPlus for a while, they determined that 26 points was still a healthy number to acheive weight loss AND get all your nutrients. I am also 5'4" and have 26 points now (and until last month I had 29).

To those at 29 points, especially those who aren't losing weight, go to a WW allowance calculator, like this one--

Enter all your information and you'll see that it says you're at 29 points. Now increase your weight in incriments of 10 pounds. In general, you'll start to see that the points go up per every 10 pounds. All you have to do is find where your point incriments start increasing, then reduce 1 point per 10 lbs.
For instance, mine says I start eating 29 points when I weigh 175lbs. Then it says I stay at 29 points even if I get to 135lbs. That shouldn't be correct. So for me at 165 I should be eating 28 points, then at 155 I should reduce to 27 and so forth. At 135 lbs, I should be eating 25 points a day.
Make sense?
Hope that helps anyone out there who's struggling.

I indulge in so much fruit everyday and still manage to lose weight. I have an apple, banana, some kind of berry, kiwi and some kind of citrus fruit almost everyday. Even if fruit does have the extra carbs and calories it is still a great substitute for a snack other than a bag of chips. Also I like the fact that fruit doesn't make me feel bloated. Not to turn down raw veggies because I have those a lot everyday too, but I don't think we need to be concerned with fruit intake on WW. Recently I have been trying to move away from the Smart Ones meals, lene cuisines and morning star meats. I am trying to eat more things with one ingredient, lots of vegetables- i really like butternut squash with cinnamon on it as well as sweet potatoes (4pts) with cinnamon on them. Sweet potatoes are really filling. Cover half your plate with an assortment of cooked frozen veggies- I just add onion and garlic powder and they are delicious and sure to fill you up. I also love almonds and there is SO many different flavors- most servings are about 24-28 nuts (4-5pts) which isn't bad at all!

For the woman who claims that 29 points is the highest: That is NOT true. I was allotted 26 points on the new program. I am very frequently hungry. I don't have more than 10 pounds to lose, though, so that is probably why my points allotment is low. I am eating smarter, but portions are extememely small. Not happy about that, but I'm 41 and need to see how to eat to maintain a healthy weight in my older age.

You know? I was on WW a few years ago and lost all of my weight. Then I lost too much, and tried to gain a little bit. That got out of control. Now I am right back to where I started. I began the new program recently and I am not hungry at all. I eat every couple of hours, and almost forcing myself to eat what I have packed. I like that the fruits and veggies are zero. I think that a little bit of planning goes a long way. I wish you a lot of luck. (I am wishing the same luck for me).

I think a lot of the "I am not losing weight" could be that there needs to be more exercise. WW wants an increase in activity in order to work with the new found way of eathing. I am only on my first week so not sure if I have lost of not, but at least I feel better because I am doing more. I have 206 lbs to lose.

Anyone who says they are not hungry on weight watchers is lying. The truth is, the program is designed to make you cut back on what/how you're eating rather dramatically, and choose replacements, like fruit when you really want meat. Last year I had been on weight watchers over a year and lost all but 7 lbs, but it was a constant struggle and I still did not like the way my body looked. Truth is, if you want to lose weight you HAVE to exercise or else you will be flabby. On weight watchers although I was losing "weight" my body fat was high, indicating that I was also losing tons of muscle. Muscle is the good stuff, but weight watchers doesn't care about that. The goal is to lose pounds, not get a healthy/shapely body. I hate the program and feel like I am missing out on enjoying life and all that it has to offer when I'm on weight watchers. It's like we're automatons, trying to convince ourselves we're not hungry when we know we are and because they said we aren't. If weight watchers works so well, how come no one stays on it? How come every lifetime member has had to redo the program over and over again? That's because as human beings we aren't meant to eat like bunny rabbits. Life is short. Eat what you want, then get out and get active. That's what I now do and I am hot!!!

My husband and I just started WW this week, and I have to say I am eating a lot more and a lot healthier than I was before! I get 29 pts per day and had 17 left over the first day! We are eating lots of 0-pt fresh fruit and veggies, grilled chicken, quinoa, etc. I am loving the new system!

For the person who complained about rice being 7 pts, maybe you should try a different kind of rice - brown rice is definitely not 7 pts if you eat a "serving size" (which most people don't and therein lies the problem with weight gain). WW is about portion control and if you want to eat 2 cups of white rice as a "serving", then yeah, it's going to be more points (plus very bland!!). Use brown rice or quinoa and spice it up with some sauteed/grilled 0-pt veggies! It'll taste a lot better and be more filling. :)

Going to try the easy muffin recipes - thanks for posting them! We like a sweet treat at night, and these sound perfect. :)

I have 26 (3 less than the old program) and most foods have higher points values except for the fruit. I am STARVING!! When I use any of my 49 points I seem to gain. In Jan 2011 29pts was the lowest. 26 didn't become the lowest until around december 2011. You are allowed to adjust. You shouldn't be hungry. Are you following the healthy guidelines? Getting enough water, protein, fruits/veggies? Its not just about pts.

There is no such thing as 19 points a day on WW; 26 points plus is the absolute minimum. Losing a pound a day is not healthy, sustainable weight loss; it is starvation, and the weight will come back once the starving ends. WW is not a temporary diet, but a permanent way of eating right.

Folks who are serious should pay the membership fee at least at the beginning so they get accurate information. I pay less than twenty dollars a month for an online membership that can be cancelled at any time, and it has been worth it to start my healthier life with facts. There is plenty of help on avoiding hunger and on getting exercise, too. Skinnytaste is awesome, as Gina's recipes are absolute genius, but the Internet generally is not a reliable substitute for an initial membership in WW.

Some days I'm hungry too. My best days I try to eat fewer points in the morning. I have fruit cup and piece of lean turkey for snack. I do my best to fit in at least a 30 minute walk in the neighborhood to boost metabolism. I try to eat a dinner (bulked up with freebie vegetables) and get a nice plate full of food that's within range. With me, it's being balanced and not feeling like I'm on a "diet" but making good choices.
