Quick Snack Ideas

Tonight at my WW meeting, the instructor shared a quick, easy and tasty recipe which I just made and am eating right now.

Yummy Cake for One
  • One box Angel Food Cake Mix
  • One box Reduced Sugar Cake Mix
Mix these two boxes of cake mix together and store in a container in your cupboard.  When you need a quick snack, take a coffee mug and mix together 1/4 Cup mix with 2 TB water. Microwave on high for one minute = 2 points

Very tasty snack.

I'll be making this soon!! I love the neat ideas that come out of WW meetings. A few of my favorites are diet soda cake and black bean brownies. Share your WW recipe ideas!!! - Gina

I have been making my own hummus lately.
2 cans of garbanzo beans
1 tablespoon of olive olive
juice from two and a half lemons
sesame seeds (2-3 tablespoons)
2 cloves of minced garlic
Sea Salt to taste

It's only two points per serving versus 3 point storebought.

I will eat a serving that with veggies or a low carb tortilla and lettuce.

I also like Target's fruit bars (most are 1 point) and a piece of light string cheese for two points.

Or I will do a teaspoon or two of natural pb and celery.

I will have to look into the laughing cow cheese. :)

I love making the diet soda cake. I don't do it often because I don't drink soda, but it works great..and it's quick and easy when I'm in a rush. :)

I don't drink soda either, only buy it for cooking. But if you can make it in the micro with water, who needs soda!

I believe this would be a similar concept to the "cake bowls" that I think are made by Betty Crocker. However, I'm sure these are more points-friendly, and maybe even adding two tablespoons of FF hot fudge sundae syrup for a frosting? Hmmm...worth looking into...

this is perfect for take-to-work lunches. I can scoop the mix in a to-go container then add water and microwave at work. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. thanks for the great tip!

I was wondering about this cake. Someone told me it was 1 point for 1/3 cup and I didnt think so. Thank you for letting me know. I just found your site and I love it.

I heard someone mention at a WW meeting about a cake made with a box mix, and a can of crushed pineapple. Did not get all of the info though. Can't remember the size of the can of pineapple, or the point value. Can anyone help? I want to try the serving for one cake mentioned above, sounds good. I live alone, and a full sized cake will take forever to eat.... or maybe not :-( I can't handle the temptation! Don't tell me to freeze some for later, frozen cake ain't half bad! Down 30lbs but it took forever! Gee... 100+ more to go! Suzan

I've got a question Gina. I'm a Londoner living in France and have begun at WW out here. We are doing prop=points. I have 34 a day and a weekly extra lot of 49.

Are your recipes based on this points system do you know? Nothing seems to be very many points so I rather suspect not. In Europe I think the WW diet is different. For example if I have a crispbread is it one point, a slice of 50g bread is 3 points.

What is the average daily allowance that American WW's give you?

Suzan, you can make a cake with a 20 oz can of crushed pineapple and a box cake. No oil or eggs. I'm not sure how you would make smaller portions, maybe divide the cake mix into 4 parts and use 5 oz crushed pineapple each time you make it?

@French Fancy- This is a good question. Here is the formula we use.

To figure out how many points you are allowed each day answer these questions and add your score:

1. Gender:
Female- score 2
Male- score 8
A nursing mom- score 12

2. How old are you?
17-26- score 4
27-37- score 3
38-47- score 2
48-58- score 1
over 58- score 0

3. What do you weigh?
Enter the first two digits of your weight in pounds.
(for example, if you weight 199, you will add 19 to your score)

4. How tall are you?
Under 5’1- score 0
5’1-5’10- score 1
Over 5’10- score 2

5. How do you spend most of your day?
Sitting down? score 0
Occasionally sitting? score 2
Walking most of the time? score 4
Doing physically hard work most of the time? score 6

Now add them all together and that’s your daily total.

You are allowed an additional 35 points per week, if you wish to use them. You must use all your points each day in order to lose weight.

Hey Gina, Suzan here. I am sorry if I confused you. The pineapple cake recipe, and the wanting to make the single serving cake were 2 different thoughts. I don't know the point value for a serving of the pineapple cake, what the size of the portion would be, and the size of the can of pineapple. Thanks!

Gina the pineapple cake I make is one box of angel food cake and 1 16oz can of crushed pineapple in its own juice mix together put in a 9x13 pan sprayed with pam bake 30 minutes. 12 serverings = 3pts a piece.

If you had to give this a calorie count, what would you say? Would love to make this for the hubby and need to log calories not points... Everything should be as easy as points! :)

I'm not sure, I think you would have to check the box mix, without added ingredients. Then divide by servings.

I keep my mixes separate and use 2 Tablespoons of each. That way you can use different flavors of cake mix with the angel food cake mix. Right now I have Lemon and Chocolate to use from!

Hi gina!! I made this tonight. But i am having a hard time figuring out how its only 2 pts.

The cake mixes said it was 140 calories for a serving of the mix of angel food cake and the other one i used was strawberry and that 180 calories per serving of the mix. The 2 tablespoons of each mix was just shy of the 1 serving gram weight.

When i use my point calculator it comes out to higher points...what am i doing wrong? did i use the wrong cake mixes?

Good question Monica. I'm not sure how they get 2 points either. Can someone who got this from a WW meeting explain? Is it all cake mixes or specific ones?

Hi Everyone.. Gina...I need to appologize. I must be completely slow! I totally did the math wrong. I realized my error this morning when i did the formal math after a good nights rest..

I ran the calorie information for the differnt mixes (Strawberry, Reduced Sugar Devils Food, and Reduced Sugar Classic Yellow)

Strawberry rang up at 3pts
(2TBS Angel food + 2TBS Stawberry = 160/1.75g/0)

Reduced Sugar Devil Food rang up at 3pts
(2TBS Angel food + 2TBS Reduced Devil Food = 145/1g/.5)

Reduced Classic Yellow Rang up at 3pts.
(2TBS Angel food + 2TBS Reduced Classic Yellow= 150/1.5g/.5)

Thanks Monica, so it seems you have to use reduced sugar box mix to make it 3 points. I still wonder how you make a 2 point cake according to this recipe?

A friend told me that I should measure the dry ingredients to see if it did in fact make 24 servings, so I did and I

Was wrong. It actually makes 30 servings at 1/4 cup each.

Here is what I put through the Recipe Builder

I put 12 servings of the one step angel food cake mix at (140 calories, 0 Fat, 0 Fiber just as the box states)

I put 12 servings of Pillsbury Reduced Sugar Cake Mix at (160 calories, 3.5 Fat and 1 Fiber just as the box states)

I had made my DH and I a cake a piece so that equaled 1/2 cup of the mix and I just measured the remaining mix which measured out at 7 Cups

So 7 1/2 cups of mix divided by 4 equals 30 and Recipe Builder stated that it was 2.

When I made it for my DH and myself I used 1 Tablespoon of the Reduced Sugar Canned Chocolate Frosting which is 1 point per tablespoon.

That makes the dessert 3 points. Delicious.
